How many times have you tried the latest diet trend only to have it fail or to regain the weight again and feel like you’re a failure?

You my Dear are not a failure, because there is no such thing as a one size fits all diet plan.

We literally need to change our mindset about diet, health and nutrition and understand that each one of us are Bio Individuals. A Bio Individual means that whatever causes you stress, caused you to become ill, or to lose or gain weight is different from what caused another person the same. What works for you may be different than what works for everyone else.

Have you ever heard of the 80/20 rule? They use this a lot in finance, in which you will find that 80% of sales comes from 20% of clients and this is true other areas of our life too. For example in Italy, 80% of the wealth is owned by 20% of the population. In relationships we may be giving and receiving 80% of what we want in the relationship, but may be focused and fighting over the 20% that we feel we are not receiving. 80/20 is also the same when it comes to dieting. You will see that the latest cookie cutter diet trend or fad, i.e., Atkins, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, LA Weight loss, Hollywood Diet, McDougal, Mediterranean, Paleo, Keto, Intermittent Fasting, etc., will work for about 80% of the population, but not for the other 20%. If you belong to that 20% you need a different approach. You need your own individualized plan that works specifically for you. You need someone who will work with you every step of your journey to support you. Health, wellness, fitness, good nutrition and maintaining a healthy weight are a journey, not some final destination. You need someone to help you to find the root cause and to help you understand your situation or problem(s) that caused you to gain weight, whether it was caused by stress, a hormone imbalance, illness, genetics, yoyo dieting or a lack of sleep. You need someone who will hold you accountable to make any nutritional and lifestyle changes needed in order for you to succeed. So, if you have any health issues, weight issues or any other kind of issue. Do some self reflection. Remember what I said above that we are all bio individuals. What works for one person doesn’t for another.

Healthcare Professionals, Doctors, Nurses, Naturopaths, Dietitians, Nutritionists, Health Counselors and Coaches need to learn how to stop treating the symptoms with quick fix bandages and diets that don’t work. And we need to quit looking for that quick fix, because they don’t work or last. We all need to start looking for the root cause of our individual symptoms and our problems. We need to focus on and take a look at what we want to change and the reason for change. What is your inspiration for wanting that change? What is your vision and dream?

We need to be able to understand our Bio Individuality. Take for example 2 women who are both 40 lbs. overweight. They have the same condition, but their life factors that led them to be 40 lbs. overweight are different, and their reason and inspiration to lose weight is also different. Therefore, the approach to achieving weight loss will be different too because it has to address the root cause and the reason and inspiration to lose the 40 lbs.

The majority may say that they both ate more than what their body was burning in fat and calories. BUT what were the factors that caused them to gain or not burn the extra calories?

Let’s discover a little bit about these women. One is a mother of 3. She is exercising 45 minutes to an hour, 3 to 4 times a week, eating a strict low calorie diet, but gives into sugar cravings on a weekly basis. She also gets very little sleep and is working in a stressful job. She has no family history of diabetes, but has a family history of hypothyroidism and has been diagnosed with both diabetes and hypothyroidism. She wants to control her diabetes and hyperthyroidism and fit into some jeans that she hasn’t worn in over 12 years.

The other woman also has 3 children. She exercises 4 to 5 times a week at the gym, eats a higher calorie diet, gets a full 8 hours of sleep every night. She has a family history of cancer, diabetes and hypothyroidism, but has not been diagnosed with any of them. She doesn’t eat sugar, but suffers from digestive issues.

She wants to live without the embarrassment of constant gas and bloating and try to prevent and reduce her risk getting cancer, diabetes and hypothyroidism. She’s afraid that if she doesn’t lose weight that she will get these illnesses and she wants to live long enough to see her children get married and have children.

Both have different medical issues and different reasons to lose weight and can’t be treated by the same diet.

In another case, both women are 30 lbs. overweight and both have IBS. But both have different medical histories and lifestyles that have led to them gaining weight and getting IBS. Both also, have different reasons and Inspiration for wanting to lose weight and control their IBS. One wants to feel comfortable in her body and be able to eat out with her friends without being embarrassed by accidents and constant gas after eating a meal. The other wants to just be free of pain and not have to always double over in pain. She wants to enjoy spending time playing with and chasing her children.

Both have the same condition, but what led to the condition and their inspiration to eat healthier and lose weight are different and there is no one size fits all solution that’s going to work for them.
